The usage of social media on public relations regarding #eskomloadshedding

 

Loadshedding is a planned method of evenly distributing the available electricity among all Eskom clients. The power company believes that any outages do not last more than two hours at a time and that, in most circumstances, customers are informed in advance. Also, it's done in a rotating manner. isn’t it too much that we have struggled for so long by facing this ongoing problem called loadshedding? I really think public relations practitioners can help in advocating for this issue by using the means of social media platforms to inform and engage or even relate with the publics maybe the solution might surface in the process of discussing about  this issue.

 

Public relations practitioners can use social media by putting hashtags in what they are posting regarding Eskom loadshedding because these hashtags creates exposure for that particular post to more than just the followers, these hashtags makes you discoverable to people who might come across that particular post, so using hashtags can be to a public relations practitioner’s advantage because they can help PR professionals to engage with the masses since loadshedding  affect people at large. These hashtags and social media campaigns might be affective as some businesses are harshly affected by loadshedding. Once you use so many hashtags you can turn away followers and since there is social media traffic with similar hashtags, people are more likely to read another person’s post.

 

I think social media can also help the public relations professionals by creating discussion groups about Eskom loadshedding issue, for instance by creating conference call or maybe if a PR professional becomes live on one of the social media platforms to talk about this issues. This might serve as an urgent matter to public relations officers because loadshedding stands between the brand they represent and stakeholders.
